Police
Funding
The Township currently pays for police protection services with proceeds from four property tax levies, including a 3.00 mill continuing levy approved by Township voters on June 2, 1981, a 1.00 mill continuing levy approved by Township voters on May 8, 1984, a 1.14 mill continuing levy approved by Township voters on November 2, 1993, and a 1.75 mill continuing levy approved by Township voters on May 3, 2011. The recently approved levy will be first collected beginning in 2012. Those resources are currently also supplemented by a Village of Reminderville contribution for additional policing services targeted at the Township’s Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) area. As costs exceed levy proceeds beginning in 2013, however, and unless additional revenues are identified, those resources will need to be supplemented by Township General Fund revenues.

Services
The Township does not currently have its own police department. The Township contracts periodically with another entity to provide police protection services. The Township in 2011 entered into a three-year contract for 2012 through 2014, inclusive. The Township currently contracts with the Summit County Sheriff for police protection services. The Township’s current police protection services contract runs through 12/31/2014.
