Funding
The Township currently pays for residential solid waste disposal and recycling services with General Fund revenues. Payment for these services is re-authorized by the Board of Trustees on an annual basis.
Services
In 1966 the Township obtained a license for the Katz Road landfill, to which all Township residential garbage was hauled using Township equipment and labor. In 1986 the Katz Road landfill was closed, and Township voters approved a 0.75 mill property tax levy to pay a private hauler to provide collecton services. The levy was removed from the tax duplicate in late 2003, after which residents paid directly for services from 2004 through 2006, inclusive. The Township in 2007 began paying for services using General Fund resources. The Township's 2021 total contract cost is estimated at $235,000.00.
The Township last sought bids for garbage and recycling services in 2021, at which time a contract was approved with Kimble Companies . The contract will run for three years from 01/01/2022 through 12/31/2024, with two optional one-year extensions in 2025 and 2026. The Township first contracted with J & J Refuse in 2004, before that having contracted with various other haulers.

Collection occurs weekly on Tuesdays, except as noted below. Collection hours are from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on collection day. All materials MUST be set out by 7:00 AM on collection day. Residents are asked to set out materials not more than one day before collection day. Services will be delayed by one day ONLY if an eligible holiday in any given week falls on a Monday or Tuesday, with six eligible holidays each year, and 2024 delays as follows:

Independence Day (Thursday, 07/04/2024 - service NOT delayed)
Labor Day (Monday, 09/02/2024 - service delayed by one day)
Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, 11/28/2024 - service NOT delayed)
Christmas Day (Wednesday, 12/25/2024 - service NOT delayed)
Each household will be provided with one 96-gallon wheeled cart for trash and one 64-gallon wheeled cart for recyclables. Residents need not accept or use the hauler-provided containers, and may continue to use their own trash containers, with no special containers or bags needed. If you recently moved into an existing home in the Township, and the prior owner or occupant did not leave the trash or recycling container behind, please contact Township Hall to arrange for delivery of a replacement container, but please be advised that - except in the case of hauler damage or material defect - replacement containers will be provided at cost. If you recently moved into a newly constructed home in the Township, please contact Township Hall to arrange for commencement of service to your new home and delivery of hauler-provided wheeled carts for trash and recyclables to your household.
The following items are accepted for recycling: glass bottles and jars, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum and bi-metal cans, residential mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and chipped board (e.g., cereal and pizza boxes). Recyclables may be commingled, but recyclables must be separated from trash. Paper products need not be bagged or bundled can be simply placed in the hauler-provided 64-gallon wheeled cart for recyclables.
The following items are NOT accepted for recycling: plastic food tubs, plastic bags, egg cartons, paper food boxes, and anti-freeze or motor oil containers.
