Senior Snow
Senior Snow

The Senior Snow Program began in 2005 as a way to assist residents who - for reason of age and/or disability - are unable to do such work, and where no other household members are capable of doing such work.  All household members 12 years of age and older are presumed to be capable of doing such work.  Please note that this Program will NOT provide the frequency or level of service that you would receive from a private contractor that you hire at your own cost.  The Township currently offers snow plowing services free of charge to residents age 60 and older, as well as disabled residents.  A property must, however, have a house on it and be occupied only by one or more qualifying residents to receive this service.  The Township Service Department removes snow from qualified driveways during the winter season, generally beginning in December and ending in March.  An application must be completed each year to verify conformance to eligibility requirements, and residents must comply with Program rules to help keep this service cost-effective and efficient for all, as follows:

Participants must install and maintain reflective address numbers on house or other location on property where visible from roadway, and must install and maintain reflective driveway markers.

Driveways will be plowed only after a snowfall of three or more inches, and not more than once in any 24-hour period.

Program service cannot be provided to any driveway with a slope greater than 10% at any point or a width less than 8 F at any point.

Program service includes clearing a standard eight foot minimum width path, making one pass on a single-width driveway and two passes on a double width driveway, with cleared areas extending not closer than two feet to garage doors and building walls, along with clearing snow from apron and piling snow on property if possible, away from tree lawns and sidewalks.

Township snow removal services are prioritized to remove snow first from public roads, then from public property and parking lots, and finally from driveways under this Program, with no guaranteed order of driveways to be plowed under the Program, and no guarantee of prompt or time-guaranteed service under this Program.

Participants must disclose when residency changes on property, including but not limited to when anyone moves in or out of house, as well as when house is to be vacant for a period of two weeks or more.

The Township will make every effort to avoid damage to property vehicles, and obstacles, but will not be held liable if any such damage occurs, including but not limited to driveway repairs, fertilization, planting, seeding, raking, and any other restoration costs.

All resident communication under the Program is with Township Hall during normal business hours, with no direct or other contact with drivers or other Township Service Department employees permitted.

Additional rules pertain to violations, removal from Program, noted on the application.

Supplementary rules apply to gravel driveways, as noted on the application.

The 2021-2022 Senior Snow Program is provided free of charge to eligible Township residents.  2021-2022 Program applications, including Program rules, are available at Township Hall.
